Applications are now open for our annual Kula Aʻo Kālaiōewe Genome Science Intensive! Suited for high school life science educators, join us to learn foundational molecular lab techniques (DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and next-generation sequencing using the Nanopore MinION platform), biotechnology, and bioethics.

2026 ntm conference educator workshop
March 7, 2026 (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM) at ʻIolani School in Honolulu, HI
This one day workshop is designed for high school and undergraduate educators with interests in microbiology, molecular biology, genomic science, bioinformatics, and infectious disease. Participants will gain hands-on experience performing whole genome sequencing of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) DNA derived from location-based environmental sampling.
Open to grade 9-12 life sciences teachers from all islands (with limited travel support for first time neighbor island teachers). Preference will be given to teachers who have attended our 2025 KAK NTM Workshop and teachers who have already participated in AIN NTM lessons.
